GreenScale, a new data centre platform engineered to support hyperscale, AI and Cloud customers, launches with 170MW of capacity already secured in two European locations.
Backed by DTCP, a leading specialist investment management firm focused on digital transformation, which intends to initially invest £1billion, GreenScale launches with the immediate acquisition of Atlantic Hub, Northern Ireland’s largest data centre based in Derry, complemented by a strategic site in Donegal, Ireland totalling 170MW of capacity. There are further development plans for an additional 300MW capacity in the Nordics.
GreenScale, a large-scale sustainable data centre platform, launches today, led by an experienced data centre management team that is headed up by Daniel Thomas, as CEO, and backed by DTCP.
The data centre platform has been launched to meet the required capacity and advanced digital infrastructure requirements of hyperscale, AI and Cloud customers. GreenScale goes to market with the acquisition of Atlantic Hub, who successfully secured planning permission for Northern Ireland’s largest data centre last month. Atlantic Hub consists of two prime locations in Derry, Northern Ireland and Donegal in Ireland, totalling 170MW capacity.
With an ambitious plan to develop over 1GW capacity, GreenScale will offer its customers a range of products from turnkey deployments, which are fully designed, fitted and operated by the company, through customised build-to-suit options. This agile approach to development will appeal to global customers looking for bespoke solutions and speed of time to market within Europe.

GreenScale is committed to developing an ecosystem of alternative energy supplies, including grid stabilisation, to improve renewable energy viability and deployment to data centres and the regional energy system. These developments are targeted at meeting the requirements of its global customers, European regulations and local communities.
Newly appointed CEO, Dan Thomas, said:
“GreenScale’s vision is to design, build and operate over 1GW of capacity across Europe, enabling the industry transformation needed to provide AI, Cloud, and High-Performance Compute environments to our customers in a sustainable way.
GreenScale’s data centres will leverage alternative energy sources and contribute to increased renewable developments in the market that will benefit local communities. We have already proven this in Northern Ireland, where we start collaborating with the local utility companies, governments and renewable energy providers to ensure a robust power supply to the site. Added to this is our active involvement in the future development of new alternative offshore and onshore energy sources that will help improve the local grid overall.”
Dan Thomas will be supported by a senior management team with decades of experience in the data centre industry. Ian Hammond has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer, previously at AtlasEdge and TomTom; Jean-Francois Berche, Chief Technology Officer, formerly Microsoft and AWS; Torsten Stuhl joins as Chief Development Officer, previously holding several positions at Vantage Data Centers, Digital Realty, InterXion and e-Shelter. Zahl Limbuwala, Operating Partner at DTCP, also joins as the Chairman of GreenScale.

Speaking about the formation of the company, Zahl Limbuwala states:
“The establishment of GreenScale recognises the growing demand for sustainable large-scale data centre capacity to satisfy the growth of Cloud and AI infrastructure. Our investment reflects DTCP’s confidence in the immense opportunities presented by these much-needed high performance compute environments.”
He continues:
“Headed up by an experienced team of industry professionals, GreenScale will sustainably design, build and operate multi-building campuses located in geographic areas that can support access to long-term renewable energy and a clear path to further growth. This exciting new business complements our existing investment portfolio by focusing on markets that can provide significant scale, growth and economic benefit.”
